When older individuals suffer some kind of dementia "usually Alzheimers", a terrible burden is placed on the
caregiving members of the family. The disorientation that the disease brings makes the ever present threat of wandering a danger.
The care giver has unrelieved responsibility.
The Cottage was established to help families that are no longer able to cope with the caretaking burden. It provides a safe, secure enviroment for the resident in very pleasant surroundings. The resident has three meals a day and is helped with bathing and dressing. Our medication technicians administer our residents medications in a supervised enviroment. A skilled activities director encourages participation in events and activities to the residents maximum capability. There is a secure outside area that residents may use safely and rocking chairs on the front porch allow residents to relax and take in the events going on around them. The Cottage has a resident cat, and under supervision can visit the two miniature horses and two pigmy goats in the meadow just across the entry road. We also have a afterschool & summer camp program for children on the campus and from time to time the children come to The Cottage to visit with residents. Our purpose is to help families cope with a very difficult illness and to help the sufferer enjoy life to the maximum of their abilities.
